This is easy to do, only you must not quit. Software with which you can make facebook cover called Photoshop. You can download trail version of this program here, http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop&loc=en_us
Dimension of image must be 851px by 315px. That size set in Photoshop, then upload image on facebook.
