Get More Facebook Smiley Faces to Express Yourself Better

Expressing one's full thought online can be frustrating because you don't have the aid of tone of voice, body language, or facial gestures to help get your full message across. To help users overcome this difficulty, Facebook created a host of smiley faces that Facebook users can utilize as representation for some of their feelings or facial expressions. Facebook smileys represent human emotions that you might not want to put into words when talking to someone because they might ruin the flow of conversation. For instance, a friend compliments you about your new haircut. You don't write 'I'm smiling' or 'I'm blushing', but most often would just say thanks. If you have emoticons on hand, would you not rather send a smiling or grinning face to express how you feel than just write a simple note that says 'Thanks!'? Which shows more how you really feel?
Facebook smileys do not only help make messages clearer, they also make conversations a little more fun and unique, a little more interesting. However, Facebook smileys have some limitations:
1. The 27 chat emoticons that Facebook has are not able represent many human feelings and expressions.
2. The designs of the smiley faces are rather plain, especially when you put them side by side with smiley faces of IMs like Yahoo Messenger and Skype.
3. They represent more general facial expressions (e.g. smile, frown) or feelings (e.g. happiness, sadness), and so can't be used to represent more specific emotional states, body language, or facial expression (e.g. jumping with joy, green with envy). Facebook chat emoticons are not able to represent some subtleties in emotions.
4. The smileys faces can be used on Facebook chat only. They can't be posted on wall posts and status messages.
Managing the Limitations of Facebook Chat Emoticons
The best way to get around the limitations of Facebook's proprietary smileys is to get external smileys to Facebook. External smiley application offers the following advantages:
1. More free smileys to choose from. Most external apps offer a broad ranger of emoticons so you're not limited to using the same smiley faces over and over again.
2. Graphic designs of smiley faces tend to be more animated, making them more fun to use.
3. If you're angry, do you turn red or do you fume with anger? If you're happy, do you jump with joy, grin, or just smile? Most external apps offer smiley emoticons offer more variety in terms of human feelings and expressions. As such, it's easier to show the subtleties of your emotions.
4. Some apps let you post smiley faces to wall posts and status messages, too.
There are many free smileys for Facebook online. To get them to Facebook, most developers require that you download smiley software. Users, however, should do some research first before downloading the free software to their PC or web browser. Is it safe to use? What is the extent of the variety that it offers? What is the quality of the graphic design? Research is essential as the first step to enhancing your Facebook experience with smileys or emoticons is to have a good Facebook smileys app.
